When you think of summertime… thoughts of sunshine, cook-outs, and relaxation come to mind. You might find yourself wanting to spend most of your time outdoors (depending on how hot it is) to take in the beautiful weather we have all been hoping and praying for after the cold winter we experienced.

Kate McKay Designs was beyond grateful and excited for the opportunity to design/style a beautiful outdoor living space back in Fall 2018. The main goal of the project was to give our clients the space to have somewhere they could spend time with family and friends as well as making it functional yet aesthetically appealing. We began this project from scratch.. minus the floors and framework and it was has been worth every minute of handwork.

Starting with the walls, we went with a lovely off-white color, Chantilly Lace by Benjamin Moore, to brighten up the space, and to give it an airy feeling. To add a subtle bit character, and to give my clients their much desired blue they love, we painted the ceiling aqua by Benjamin Moore. Next came both the placement and selection of the outdoor sconce lighting, the railings and decorative panels.

To anchor the space and provide as much spacing as possible without overcrowding, we chose to go with a neutral tone sectional sofa from Restoration Hardware for a classic, soft on the eye look. Pillows… who doesn’t love to play around with pillows?! We stuck with the neutral tones and also added a pop of color to go with the modern coastal theme. We used one of my favorite pops, coral pink, classic gray, and jute textured pillows to complete this coastal look.

I think every space MUST have some texture within it and we didn’t hold back with the Liberty Nest project. Between the shiplap ceiling, decorative pillows, iron sconce lighting, natural hanging chair, and the orbit chandelier handing from the portico, they all work together to achieve the modern coastal space we worked for. And of course, to bring this look together, we added some potted plants to bring greenery into the space and cute little fuchsia flowers to seal the deal.

This space is like the beach away from the beach. A beautiful oasis for anyone to enjoy and wind down at the end of a busy day, and take in the summer air.
